Corey Anderson: ” I rejected the opportunity to fight for three years before I actually gave it a try after graduating college.”

I recently got the chance to speak with a UFC top ranked Light Heavyweight Corey “Beastin 25/8” Anderson (7-1, Ranked #14). Just like everyone else Anderson sets goals for himself and in a division full of killers they have to be high.

What keeps him focused? Well training with some of the worlds best fighters will keep your skill set sharpened up — but it’s his trust in his partners and a belief in himself that will continue to carry him up towards accomplishing his goals.

We found out the things that keep the balance when he’s not in the cage, what he would be doing without Mixed Martial Arts, what fans may not know about him, and some of the goals he has in sight to close out the year.

What are some of your favorite movies, food, sports teams, and music artists?

Favorite movie: Remember the Titans or 42 the Jackie Robinson story.

 Food: Spaghetti.

Sports teams; Football: Eagles, Baseball: Yankees, Basketball: Celtics.

Music Artist: Jay Z

If you could choose any four fighters to be with you when your back is against the wall who would they be and why?

Frankie Edgar, Edson Barboza, Marlon Moraes, and Frankie Perez. I go to war with these fellas daily, I got their back at any point in time, and I trust they have mine as well. Some of the nastiest, hardest kicking and punching fighters in the world. Heart bigger than Texas and loyalty out of this world.

What would you be doing without MMA in your life?

If I didn’t have MMA I would still be perusing my dream job as a college wrestling coach.

What is one thing fans might not know about you?

I rejected the opportunity to fight for three years before I actually gave it a try after graduating college.

What are your goals for this year?

Goals this year were to remain undefeated (fell short of that in April), break into the rankings, finish the year off in the top ten, and continue to grow.
